About World EV Day
What is World EV Day?
Observed annually on September 9th, World EV Day is a global celebration dedicated to electric mobility and sustainable transportation.
Launched in 2020 by the sustainability media company Green.TV alongside partner organizations, the holiday was created to drive awareness, spark policy discussions, and build excitement around the shift toward electric vehicles (EVs).
As cities and countries worldwide work toward net-zero emissions, World EV Day serves as a unifying touchpoint for drivers, manufacturers, and policymakers to champion a cleaner, greener transportation future.
Did you know? Norway leads the world in electric vehicle adoption by a massive margin, with a staggering percentage of its population embracing EV ownership per capita compared to any other nation!
The History and Growth of Electric Mobility
While electric vehicles might feel like a thoroughly modern phenomenon, battery-powered transport actually dates back to the 19th century. However, recent decades have seen an unprecedented boom in battery technology, charging infrastructure, and mainstream consumer interest.
World EV Day was established to capture this momentum, addressing consumer questions, highlighting new innovations, and celebrating the transition away from fossil-fuel-dependent vehicles.
Today, millions of electric cars, buses, and commercial vehicles roam global roads, shifting the narrative from an alternative choice to the ultimate standard of modern driving.
How to Get Involved
Whether you already drive an electric vehicle or are simply curious about making the switch, there are plenty of ways to participate in the celebrations:
Talk to non-drivers: If you own an EV, use the day to share your real-world experiences, maintenance tips, and charging habits with friends or family members who are hesitant to make the transition.
Attend an EV meetup: Look out for local or virtual community events where drivers and industry enthusiasts gather to test-drive models, share insights, and learn about the latest charging technology.
Explore sustainable transit policies: Educate yourself on local incentives, tax credits, and infrastructure expansions happening in your region to support cleaner transport.
Support green brands: Learn about automotive manufacturers and clean-energy companies that are pushing the boundaries of zero-emission technology.
Did you know? Recent consumer data shows that lower daily running costs have become an even bigger motivator for drivers considering an EV than environmental benefits alone, turning electric cars into a practical financial choice!
