About National Button Day
This day was founded in 1938 by the National Button Society (originally ‘Button Day’). It recognizes button collecting as an organized hobby.
Though ornamental buttons have been discovered dating back to 5,000 BC, functional buttons with buttonholes for fastening or closing clothes appeared first in Germany in the 13th century.
