About Age Adventurously Day
What is Age Adventurously Day?
Who says that getting older means slowing down? Age Adventurously Day is a vibrant celebration dedicated to smashing the stereotypes of aging and encouraging adults of all generations to step outside their comfort zones.
In 2025, Road Scholar, the not-for-profit leader in educational travel for older adults, officially designated June 8th as an annual celebration of the joys of aging called "Age Adventurously Day"!
It’s a day to remember that "adventure" isn't reserved for the twenty-somethings; it is a mindset that keeps us curious, active, and engaged with the world around us.
The spirit of this day is all about saying "yes" to the things you’ve always wanted to try but perhaps felt you were "too old" for. Whether it’s a physical challenge, a creative pursuit, or a solo travel mission, the goal is to prove that life’s most exciting chapters don't have a shelf life. By embracing new experiences, we keep our minds sharp and our spirits youthful.
Did you know? Research suggests that engaging in "novelty-seeking" behaviors and learning new skills can significantly improve cognitive health and emotional well-being as we age.
Joining in on Age Adventurously Day
Getting involved in Age Adventurously Day is as simple as challenging your own status quo. There is no right or wrong way to be adventurous—it’s entirely personal. If you’re looking for inspiration on how to celebrate, here are a few ways to kickstart your own journey:
Try a new physical activity: Sign up for a beginner’s yoga class, go on a nature hike, or even try something bold like indoor skydiving or a dance lesson.
Learn a "youthful" skill: Dive into a world you’re unfamiliar with, whether that’s learning to code, picking up a musical instrument, or mastering a new language.
Travel somewhere local: You don’t need a passport to be an adventurer. Visit a nearby town, museum, or park you’ve never explored before.
Share your story: Use social media to post about your adventures using the hashtag #AgeAdventurously to inspire others to do the same.
Did you know? Some of the world’s greatest achievements happened later in life; for instance, Laura Ingalls Wilder didn't publish her first book until she was 65!
Steps to help plan Age Adventurously Day
If you are ready to plan a more structured "adventure" for the day, follow these simple steps to ensure you have a safe and thrilling experience:
Identify one activity that makes you feel slightly nervous but mostly excited.
Research the necessary equipment or local classes required to get started.
Invite a friend or family member to join you for moral support and shared memories.
Set a date, commit to it, and document the experience with photos or a journal entry.
Today is the perfect reminder that your age is simply a number, not a barrier. So, get out there and show the world that the best adventures are the ones we take today!
