About National Kentucky Day
On October 19th, National Kentucky Day recognizes the 15th state to be granted statehood.
Known as the Bluegrass State, Kentucky became the first to enter the union west of the Appalachian Mountains. Home to the Kentucky Derby, Fort Knox and the birthplace of Daniel Boone, Abraham Lincoln and Muhammad Ali, Kentucky is bordered by rivers on three of its four boundaries.
- Did you know? Post-its were invented in Kentucky by Dr. Spencer Silver, a scientist at 3M. The iconic office supplies are still solely manufactured at 3M’s plant in Cynthiana, Ky.
- Did you know? There are more bourbon barrels than people in Kentucky. In fact, according to the Kentucky Distillers’ Association, there are nearly two bourbon barrels for every Kentucky resident.
