About Casimir Pulaski Day
Casimir Pulaski Day is a legal holiday in Illinois on the first Monday in March. It celebrates the birthday of Pulaski, a Polish-born soldier who made a significant contribution to American independence.
In 1986, a holiday was assigned in his honor in Chicago due to the large Polish population. Chicago has the second-largest Polish population outside of Poland’s capital city, Warsaw.
