About World Mental Health Day
World Mental Health Day is observed on October 10th every year, with the overall objective of raising awareness of mental health issues around the world and mobilizing efforts in support of mental health.
World Mental Health Day was established on October 10th 1992. It is a day that is recognized by many major health organizations, such as the World Health Organization and the World Federation for Mental Health.
The Day provides an opportunity for all stakeholders working on mental health issues to talk about their work, and what more needs to be done to make mental health care a reality for people worldwide.
Mental health is a state of balance between the individual and his environment that allows him to develop his potential, face difficulties and enjoy life. According to the World Health Organization (WHO), mental health is an essential component of health and a fundamental human right.
However, millions of people in the world suffer from some type of mental disorder, such as depression, anxiety or addictions, which affect their quality of life and their ability to participate in society. Therefore, World Mental Health Day seeks to raise awareness among the population and governments about the need to promote policies and programs that prevent, detect and treat mental problems, as well as guarantee respect and inclusion of people who suffer from them.
