It's National Doughnut Week in the UK!

Get ready for a week filled with sugary goodness because it's National Doughnut Week in the UK this May! This isn't just any excuse to indulge in a delicious treat; it's a fantastic opportunity to support a truly worthy cause.

What is National Doughnut Week?

National Doughnut Week is a special week dedicated to celebrating everyone's favourite ring-shaped (and sometimes filled!) delights while raising vital funds for The Children’s Trust. Businesses all across the UK, from your local bakery and favourite coffee shop to even offices getting in on the action, participate by selling lots and lots of mouthwatering doughnuts. A portion of the proceeds from these sales goes directly to The Children’s Trust, helping them to continue their incredible work with children who have brain injuries.

The Sweet History of National Doughnut Week

This wonderful initiative was established way back in 1992 by Christopher Freeman of Dunns Bakery.

Inspired by the heartbreaking reports of the Ethiopian famine by Michael Buerk, Christopher wanted to use his own skills and the generosity of the baking industry to make a difference in the lives of children facing hardship. What a brilliant idea – using the simple joy of a doughnut to bring hope and support to those in need!

How Can You Get Involved?

Getting involved in National Doughnut Week is as easy (and delicious!) as can be. Here are a few ways you can make a difference:

  • Buy Doughnuts! Keep an eye out for participating bakeries, coffee shops, and even workplaces that are selling doughnuts during the week. Every purchase helps raise money for The Children’s Trust.

  • Host Your Own Doughnut Sale: If you're feeling ambitious, why not organise your own doughnut sale at your office, school, or community group? You can bake your own or order from a local supplier and donate the proceeds.

  • Spread the Word: Let everyone know about National Doughnut Week! Share posts on social media, tell your friends and family, and encourage them to get involved. Use the hashtag #NationalDoughnutWeek to join the online buzz.

  • Donate Directly: If you can't get your hands on a doughnut during the week, you can always make a direct donation to The Children’s Trust. Every little bit helps!

  • Did you know? The Children’s Trust provides specialist rehabilitation, education, therapy, and care for children and young people with brain injury across the UK.

  • Did you know? National Doughnut Week has been running for over three decades, and thanks to the generosity of participants and doughnut lovers, it has raised significant funds for The Children's Trust.

So, this May, treat yourself to a delicious doughnut (or two!) and know that you're not just satisfying your sweet tooth, you're also making a positive impact on the lives of children who need it most. Let's make this National Doughnut Week the sweetest one yet!
