About International Beer and Pizza Day
National Curry Week UK
Get ready to spice up your life because National Curry Week UK is here! Every October, food lovers across the United Kingdom unite to celebrate one of the nation's absolute favourite culinary traditions.
From creamy kormas and fiery vindaloos to the iconic chicken tikka masala, this delicious week is all about honouring the incredible diversity, rich flavours, and cultural impact of curry.
Whether you are a master in the kitchen or a dedicated take-away enthusiast, there is no better excuse to indulge in a fragrant, spice-filled feast.
Did you know? Chicken tikka masala is widely considered one of Britain's most popular dishes, and unique styles like the Balti were actually invented right in Birmingham, England, in the late 1970s!
History of National Curry Week
National Curry Week was founded back in 1998 by the late journalist and curry enthusiast Peter Grove. His vision was simple yet impactful: to celebrate the booming UK curry industry, honour the cuisine, and raise vital funds for poverty-focused and hunger-relief charities.
Over the years, the celebration has grown into a major cultural fixture, sparking fun traditions like double-decker curry tour buses, giant poppadum towers, and massive charity cook-offs.
It highlights how deeply intertwined South Asian flavours have become with modern British culture and identity.
Did you know? Britain's love affair with spiced dishes goes back centuries, marked by the opening of London's very first curry house, the Hindoostane Coffee House, way back in 1810!
