About National Take Your Dog To Work Day
This day honors our friends and encourages us to take our dogs into work where possible.
This day to celebrate our companions began in 1999 and is a great way to support and build new bridges with fellow workers. The day is celebrated annually on the Friday after Fatherâs Day.
National Take Your Dog To Work Day (TYDTW Day) was first created and first celebrated in 1999 by the Pet Sitters International Group. The group created this holiday in an effort to encourage businesses to be more dog friendly, allow workers to bring companion animals into the workplace, but also to promote dog adoptions from local shelters, rescue groups, and humane societies.
The group hoped that creating this holiday would encourage dogless co-workers to adopt but would also bring awareness to local shelters and make the community as a whole more dog-friendly.
