About National Military Spouse Appreciation Day
Military Spouse Appreciation Day was created in 1984 and traditionally falls on the Friday before Mother’s Day.
It became a national holiday in 1999 to recognize the heart and sacrifice it takes to be the backbone of the family, supporting our troops especially when a spouse is deployed.
The day is set aside to honor military spouses for the role families or service members play in keeping the armed forces strong and the country safe.
