About National Bike to Work Day
The day when everyone internationally is encouraged to bike to work. It was established to promote the bicycle as an alternative way to communicate to work and that way reduce both city congestion and pollution.
Annually, this observance takes place on the third Friday in May. May is National Bike Month.
According to The League of American Bicyclists: “May is National Bike Month, promoted by the League of American Bicyclists and celebrated in communities from coast to coast. Established in 1956, National Bike Month is a chance to showcase the many benefits of bicycling — and encourage more folks to giving biking a try.
At the state or local level, Bike to Work events are conducted by small and large businesses, city governments, bicycle clubs and environmental groups.
