About National Melba Toast Day
Melba toasts are very thin, dry pieces of toasted bread that are usually served with pate, but can also be used as the base for canapes.
It is named after Dame Nellie Melba. Its name is thought to date from 1897 when the singer was very ill and it became a staple of her diet.
